Ann Arbor, Michigan – 750 Tons
Skanska USA Building Inc. awarded Douglas Steel a $2.3 million dollar Cost Management contract to furnish and erect 750 tons of structural steel for the new Walgreen Drama Center for the School of Music. This world class facility features an academic wing of nearly 50,000 square feet. From rehearsal and costume design studios to lighting and sound stages this facility contains class rooms for every discipline necessary to create a theatrical performance. The crowning touch is an inviting 6,000 square foot, 200 seat theater.
In spite of the constant architectural and structural refinements to the design, this demanding project was completed under budget. Credit can be given to UofM and Skanskas’ decision to use Douglas Steel’s Cost Management System for the construction of this project. Douglas Steel was able to perform nearly $500,000 of additional work without change orders and without increasing the original contract price. This truly added value to the project without increasing the owners’ steel construction cost. This is another great success for Douglas Steel’s Cost Management System.
