Ann Arbor, Michigan – 3500 Tons
Douglas Steel fabricated and erected the new 3,500 ton University of Michigan Health System Cardiovascular Center on the site of the “Old Main” hospital. This 350,000 square foot, 6-story building was built under the management of Barton Malow Company. It is one of the first fully comprehensive cardiovascular treatment centers in the nation. Gracefully integrated into the building is a cylindrical 90 foot clearstory winter garden framed with architectural exposed structural pipe framing. Douglas Steel also erected three bridges that connect the Cardiovascular Center to the adjacent medical center buildings.
