Douglas Steel fabricated and erected nearly 2,000 tons of structural steel and miscellaneous iron for the new $78 million DMC Cardiovascular Heart Hospital in Detroit, MI. This world-class facility will provide a new home for the nationally recognized DMC Cardiovascular Institute. Slated for completion in early 2014, this project is part of the nearly $850 million investment in the DMC by Vanguard Health Systems. Douglas Steel is under contract with Jenkins/Skanska Joint Venture to detail, fabricate and erect the steel for the 6-story 190,000 sf facility along with a 150’ Pedestrian Bridge.
To keep pace with the fast track schedule, Douglas streamlined the shop drawing review process by importing the 3D model from Harley Ellis Devereaux, the Engineer of Record, into our detailing software. Douglas developed structural details and connection calculations and then exported the 3D model back to Harley Ellis for their use in 3D model review, reducing the normal two week shop drawing review process to only one week.
