As a leader in the structural steel fabrication & erection industry, Douglas Steel is committed to the assurance of safety. It is the intention of our safety department to provide and maintain the safest possible working conditions for all employees, with particular emphasis on team effort among our people. Our goals are to:

  1. Reduce our accident rate to ZERO
  2. Provide a safe working environment for all employees through training and hazard awareness
  3. Assure our customers that our work and equipment are being maintained in a safe manner
  4. Protect the public from any hazards that might emanate from the execution of our work.

Douglas Steel’s executives, managers and supervisors are committed to the continuous improvement of its operations to provide a safe and healthful place to work. The elimination of hazards, and the proper communication, instruction, tools and personal protective equipment to deal with the hazards that cannot be eliminated, promotes the atmosphere for accident free work sites.

Douglas Steel’s experience modification ratio (EMR) of 0.57 demonstrates that Douglas Steel has developed programs to safely fabricate and erect structural steel. Pre-job site analysis, lift planning and erection stability analysis is an integral part of our job site operations.

Douglas Steel has committed to maintain a drug free work site by having our entire on site personnel drug tested and current in the MUST drug testing program. All of our erection supervisors have completed all 18 of the MUST Safety Training Modules.

Douglas Steel has received numerous safety commendations from our customer as well as from Associated General Contractors, American Institute of Steel Construction, Construction Association of Michigan and Central Fabricators Association.

Douglas Steel’s Vice President of Engineering, Technology and Safety has extensive experience in developing and maintaining our safety program. He is a member of the MIOSHA Part 26 – Structural Steel Erection Advisory Committee, MIOSHA Part 10 – Lifting and Digging Advisory Committee, Chair of the AISC Safety Committee and a member of the Advisory Board of the Lansing Safety Council.
